The story behind "Joyful Skull" art:
The last 4 years were really difficult, not so difficult as for the people, who ACTUALLY live in Ukraine. Nothing can compare to this. But morally difficult, like for the people who have relatives and friends there, or people who live in the country which could be next. You start really thinking how you lived your life: did you do everything you wanted to? Did you meet everyone you wanted to? Did you spend enough time with everyone you wanted to? And tend to make new mistakes, do completely opposite conclusions and actions.
No matter how much you worked on your mental health before, when it is a new level of threat, you have to work on that again. And it is really difficult to stay strong and not mute your feelings, to have a fun time relaxing with friends and not think "did i work enough today". Especially if you have no support right now or your support is somewhere else.
And once I caught myself in a state where I worked the whole day from the morning to the evening, well, because I do need to earn that money. And I worked as a Graphic Designer, which is not bad, I kinda liked this, but I didn't really want this. The whole point of being a Graphic Designer for me was to earn money to live and in my free time develop art channel on YouTube and also comics. The key words are "free time". Yes, I could pay my bills, no questions, but "free time" are you kidding? No, get to work, lazy a$$, you need some money for camera, lighting, some additional courses and so on, so on... before even thinking about starting. I caught myself on this, and really decided to start, at least YouTube shorts and IG reels.
So when I actually started thinking about my dreams and my life, when I started to spend some time for the sake of THESE dreams, for ME. This whole construction failed, fell and folded. I only managed to save enough to last me a few months, and it quickly ran out, so I had to live with my cousin for a while. The town isn't friendly for people like me at all, and not friendly for Ukrainians too, so I tried not to go out, I started to blame myself for my "laziness" and work even more diligently. I forgot about YouTube and comics for a while, until better times, until it is the right time. The good thing is that she had a cat, my buddy, he always came to me to keep me company. With time, he just became my cat too, his name is Coconut, btw. He was a really affectionate cat, loved being petted and constantly slept on you. You know that situation when you can't move, because the cat is sleeping so cute.
One evening I really had to work, so I didn't let him into the room. And in another room, where my cousin was sleeping, a balcony was opened and a window too. I don't really know what happened, I just heard scratches and a damn familiar "meow", not like other street cats. I checked all the rooms and he was nowhere to be found. I woke up my cousin and said "I think Coconut fell out". It was the 8th floor, so we went down to look for him. It was already a deep night, when we found him he was still alive, but we couldn't see anything. He just made horrible sounds and we had a vague feeling that he broke something. We brought him home, this was an awful picture under the light, I don't wanna describe. We couldn't find any veterinarians, who would work at night, so we prepared him for transportation and hoped for the best.
In the morning we said goodbye to him.
And this triggered me: I started thinking again about how I spend my time. Yes, the obstacles and reasons exist, but they will always exist, to varying degrees, especially if I continue to live in this mode, there is no "right" time to do what you want to do. There is no "it is just for a short time and then I return to a normal routine". Set your life from the start. Time is the only thing which you won't earn back, so do it now, do what you want, meet who you want, spend time with those who are close to you. Don't leave it for tomorrow, because tomorrow may not be. And if you have no "free" time, raise your prices.
These thoughts inspired me to create the "Life&Death" collection with the skeleton who wants to live a full life now, but was too scared when it really was =) Learn from his mistakes.
(it is just the Skull right now, but I will draw other ideas as soon as have free time😅, because I tryna focus on the comic and YouTube)
I think everybody needs such a reminder to spend more time with those who you LOVE, who uplift your life and make it more colorful or do whatever you REALLY want to, start that thing you want for a long time.... And I just love to use contrasts of meanings in art.
"CARPE DIEM" means 'seize the day' from Latin.
This isn’t just a coffee mug — it’s your daily pep talk in disguise. The skull and flowers design is like a little whisper: hey, don’t wait — go try all the cool things you’ve been dreaming about. Big adventures, small joys, or just finally trying that new dessert… life feels better when you’re living it fully (coffee in hand makes it even better).
